can an ai be my personal trainer

AI personal trainer app:
what Ari does, and doesn't.

An AI personal trainer app plans your training, logs your sessions and food, and tracks your progress through a conversation. Physiqo is one for iPhone, and its AI coach is called Ari. Here is what she does, what a human personal trainer still does better, and who it suits.

What is an AI personal trainer app?

An AI personal trainer app is a training and nutrition app you talk to instead of filling in. You say what you did or ate, in your own words, and the AI works out the rest: which session, which set, which food and how many calories. It then uses your history to plan your next sessions and to answer your questions.

Physiqo is a UK-built iPhone app that works this way. The AI coach inside it is Ari. Training, Food and Body all sit behind one chat, so you can text Ari instead of tapping through screens, and the screens are still there when you want to see the numbers. The main page shows Physiqo, the AI fitness coach app, with the real chat.

Is there an app where I can text a personal trainer?

Physiqo is an iPhone app where you text an AI coach called Ari rather than a human trainer. You message her what you lifted or ate in your own words, and she logs it, builds and adjusts your training plan, and answers from your own logs. She can't watch your form, and she isn't a doctor or a physio.

AI personal trainer or a human one?

An AI personal trainer is good at the admin. Ari plans your sessions around your days, kit and goal, logs every set and meal you text her, changes the week when life gets in the way and answers from your own numbers, at any hour. A human personal trainer can do what Ari can't: watch your form, spot you, adjust a lift in the room and work with an injury. Plenty of people use both.

What Ari does in Physiqo

Ari reads your logs and acts on what you tell her. In practice that comes down to six jobs.

  • She logs your training. Type overhead press fifty for six and she records Overhead press, 50 kg x 6, against the right set of today's session, and marks a personal record when it is one.
  • She builds and changes your plan. Ask for a plan and she drafts your week on a card, around your days, kit and goal. You change any lift, then save each session. Later, only got 30 mins today or move legs to thursday comes back as a card, and nothing changes until you tap Confirm.
  • She logs your food. Type it, snap it, scan a barcode or send a screenshot, and she turns it into calories and macros. The calorie counter guide explains how.
  • She answers from your own numbers. Ask how much protein you have left today, how your bench is going or how you slept, and she answers with the figure and the period.
  • She copes when life gets in the way. Tell her you are away from 12 to 18 November and she proposes how each session moves, on a card for you to approve.
  • She remembers. Every set, meal and note is kept until you delete it. After each month she writes a short journey note, and you can ask about any part of your history.

What a conversation looks like

Say you only have half an hour. Ari answers with a card that shows exactly what would change in today's session, for example Bench press from 4 sets to 3, a few accessory lifts dropped and the time cut from 53 minutes to 29. It says the change is for today only and that your plan stays the same. You tap Confirm or Not now.

Say you lifted something. Ari answers with the set she logged, which set of the session it was, and Undo and Edit buttons in case she misheard. The workout tracker guide goes into the live workout screen, rest timer and plans.

What Ari can't do

She would rather say so than bluff, and so would we.

  • She is not a person, a doctor or a physio. Ari is an AI coach that gives general training and food guidance.
  • She gives no medical advice. She won't diagnose or treat an injury or talk about medication. If something hurts, see someone qualified.
  • She won't coach crash diets or drugs. That includes disordered eating, very low calories, steroids and other drugs.
  • She can't judge your form from a photo or video, and she can't say a food is safe for an allergy, because she reads food names, not labels.
  • She can't act outside Physiqo. No calling, ordering or setting alarms. She can set a reminder inside the app.
  • Her smart answers need a connection. Logging, plans and your own numbers work on your phone alone; anything she has to think through needs the internet.

Who an AI personal trainer app suits

Physiqo is for adults aged 18 and over, in the UK first, who train at a gym, at home with dumbbells or with no kit. It suits you if your week keeps changing, with shifts, travel or a sore knee, if you would rather type than tap through forms, or if you want training, food and body in one place.

It may not suit you if you want someone to watch your technique, if a medical condition needs supervision, or if you use Android. Physiqo is iPhone only. There is no Android version and no Apple Watch app, although it can read your weight, steps, sleep and workouts from Apple Health, read only.

What happens to your data

Ari is part of Physiqo, and you agree to that once, at sign-up. To answer you, she shares only what each answer needs with the AI tool that powers her: what you ask, your food, training and body numbers, and photos and files you choose to send. It is only used to write her replies. It is never used for ads, never sold and never used to train AI. Progress photo files stay on your phone unless you switch on the optional backup, and you can delete a chat, a note or your whole account whenever you choose. The plain guide to how Physiqo uses AI and your data has the detail.

What is an AI personal trainer app

An AI personal trainer app is a training and nutrition app you talk to in your own words. Physiqo is one for iPhone: you text Ari, its AI coach, and she logs your workouts and meals, plans and changes your training week and answers from your own history.

Is Ari a real person

No. Ari is the AI coach inside the Physiqo app, not a human. She logs what you tell her, plans and changes your training and answers from your own numbers. She gives general training and food guidance only: she isn't a doctor, a dietitian or a physio, so for pain, injury or anything medical, see someone qualified.

Can an AI personal trainer replace a real one

Ari is an AI coach, not a person, so she can't watch you lift or correct your form. She can plan sessions, log your sets, track your food and answer from your numbers. If you want someone to check your technique in the gym, a human trainer still does that.
